Uninstall Security Essentials Windows 10

Uninstall Security Essentials in Windows 10

It is intended for the Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) application to be activated when a user upgrades their computer from Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 to Windows 10. This is because the onboard security programme for these versions of the operating system is scheduled to be replaced by Windows Defender. Windows Defender is the default security tool for Windows 10, and it is intended to take over the functions and responsibilities of Microsoft Security Essentials in its entirety.

However, when a Windows user upgrades from a prior version of Windows to Windows 10, something can go wrong, and Windows Defender does not take the role of Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). Instead, both Microsoft Security Essentials and Microsoft Windows Defender begin to exist on the same computer. Most people would not consider this a burden, but it is frequently a significant issue because, because MSE was not meant to function on Windows 10, it does not function on the freshly upgraded PC. In the same way, because Windows Defender was unable to successfully replace MSE, it does not function. The user instead receives a popup notification from Windows Defender when they first boot up their computer, informing them that Windows Defender is off.

The problem becomes even worse when the user attempts to uninstall MSE in order to allow Windows Defender to perform its duties but fails and receives a mistake message claiming that MSE can’t be INSTALLED instead, regardless of whatever method they choose to attempt to uninstall MSE from their computer. The foundation of this problem is the undeniable truth that Windows Defender was built to prevent the installation of MSE, but in doing so, it was also coded to prevent the uninstallation of MSE, which is the source of the problem. When you use Windows 10, you may find that uninstalling Microsoft Security Essentials is a little more difficult. You should be able to successfully remove Microsoft Security Essentials from a Windows 10 PC as long as you follow the instructions below.

  • Press the Windows logo key plus R to open the Run dialogue box. In the Run dialogue box, type taskmgr and then click on OK.
  • Locate and right-click on the Windows Defender Service (WinDefend) inside the Services tab, and then select
  • Stop from the context menu (see Resources). The Windows Defender Service will no longer prevent you from
  • installing (or removing) MSE, and you should be able to remove the programme as if it were any other application once the service has been disabled.
  • Uninstall a programme by going to the instrument panel > Programs & Features > Uninstall a Program.
  • Locate and uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials from the list of programmes that appear. It should now be able to be uninstalled successfully.
