Magic Leap has had a difficult season, as early this season there were reports that the well-funded mixed fact startup was looking for a possible buyer. This led to a lot of negative press for the company. Following the failure of the provider’s mixed fact headset to pique the interest of customers, the company has reduced its workforce by 600 full-time positions as part of a restructuring effort. Workers at all levels, including the very best supervisors and mill supervisors, are let go as part of the workforce reduction. The marketing departments have taken a significant amount of damage.
According to an analysis conducted by Protocol on LinkedIn, a significant number of former employees of Magic Leap have been hired by Apple to assist the technology company in achieving its goals in the area of augmented reality (AR).

After this Protocol evaluation was completed, there was a consistent movement of skilled workers from Magic Leap into Apple over the course of many years. After conducting a more in-depth analysis of these LinkedIn bios, Protocol came to the conclusion that Apple has consistently been the most desirable destination for former Magic Leap employees.
Apple is rumoured to be working on a pair of eyeglasses simulations right now. In addition to developing standalone AR-VR eyeglasses that can compete with Facebook’s Oculus Quest, the tech giant is working on slim data glasses that are integrated with the iPhone. These glasses will also compete with Facebook’s standalone Oculus Quest.
In addition to Apple and Facebook, it’s possible that Google is hiring lots of former leaders as well. After the failure of its own virtual reality application on mobile devices, Google is following Apple’s lead and attempting to break into the augmented reality market with its smartphones. Through its Oculus division and a sizable research section devoted to developing next-generation interfaces, Facebook is currently making the best investment in virtual reality (VR).

An investigation into LinkedIn profiles conducted by Protocol has revealed that a number of the former employees of Magic Leap have now started working for a number of the most successful companies in Silicon Valley, including Apple, Microsoft, Google, Facebook, and Amazon.

A large number of former Leap employees were hired by the Silicon Valley behemoth in the preceding half year and assigned to various positions in the company’s own extended reality (XR) department. These positions included computer vision scientist, XR prototype, and optical systems engineer, amongst others. These are activities that appear to have an immediate bearing on the augmented reality headset that Apple will release in the near future (but has not yet announced).

Microsoft is putting all of its efforts into developing its own version of combined reality glasses designed for use in industrial settings, called the HoloLens 2. Additionally, Microsoft provides the augmented reality (AR) mobile game Minecraft Earth, which is a mega-play in the user AR area.
