Extend the Capabilities of Your Desktop with an Apple TV
Your Apple TV is quickly evolving into a central connectivity hub for all of your other electronic devices. When you want to stream photos, videos, or music to an Apple TV, you will need to connect an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad to the device. How can you make use of this functionality now that your devices have been updated and you have connected them to an equivalent network? To stay true to Apple’s traditional aesthetic, they need to make the process as easy as possible.
You can find the AirPlay display icon in the Menu Bar of your computer. Simply select your Apple TV by clicking on its icon; the reflection of your screen will then take place automatically. To change this setting, click the icon in the menu bar again, then select the Extend Desktop option.

Simply move the mouse pointer between the screens in either the left-to-right or right-to-left direction to move between the displays. This is frequently the default setting, but you will want to change the second display so that it is either on the right side of the first display, at the top, or at the bottom. To make a change like this, go to the System Preferences menu and select Displays.
After that, go to the tab labelled Arrangement. You’ll find that there are two displays that are presented in the colour blue. Your primary display is the one with the white bar at the highest position, while the one with the quality clear blue box is the display for your Apple TV. Simply clicking and dragging either display to the desired location will allow you to change where they are positioned.
After you have your displays set up the way you want them, you will need to adjust the resolution of the second display so that it fits your needs. The resolution options that appeared on the Apple TV display will also appear as your primary display once you open the Display System Preferences panel. You’ll be able to make your choice on the Apple TV between Best For Display and scaling to 1080p, 720p, or 2560×1440 (MacBook Air, 2013 output). In most cases, selecting the option that is “Best For Display” is going to be the only viable option.
