Method 1: Restart Windows and install Windows updates during a clean boot state
It would be beneficial if you connected to the computer as an administrator in order to perform a clean boot.
When you perform a clean boot, it is possible that some functionality on your computer will be temporarily lost. The functionality is restored as soon as the computer is restarted normally. If the problem is still present, you will receive the first error message and will exhibit the first behaviour, as described above.
If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from performing the steps outlined in this article. We strongly advise against using the System Configuration utility to change the advanced boot options on your computer unless you have been instructed to do so by a Microsoft support engineer. It is possible that doing so will render the computer unusable.
After you’ve completed a clean boot, you should install Windows Updates that are compatible with your operating system, for example, Windows 8.
Use the swiping motion to bring up Windows Update (or, if you’re using a mouse, simply point to the lower-right corner of the screen and move the mouse pointer up) and then select Settings > Change PC settings to access the program’s settings.
Select Update and recovery > Windows Update from the drop-down menu.
Install Windows Updates a second time if necessary.
Method 2: Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter
Use your finger to swipe in from the right edge of the screen and tap Search (or, if you’re using a mouse, move the mouse pointer to the upper-right corner of the screen and then down, then click Search). The Windows Update troubleshooter will download and open.
Troubleshooting can be found by typing it into the search box, tapping or clicking on Settings, and then tapping or clicking Troubleshooting.
Then, under System and Security, tap or click on Fix Problems with Windows Update, and then click on the Next button.

Method 3: Perform a system restore
When you boot your computer from the Windows installation disc, you’ll be presented with a number of system recovery options. To make an attempt at this, follow these steps:
Insert the Windows 8 installation disc into the CD-ROM drive and restart the computer to begin using it.
When you are prompted to boot from the disc, press any key on your keyboard.
Repair your computer by tapping or clicking on it.
Troubleshoot can be accessed by tapping or clicking Troubleshoot, followed by tapping or clicking Advanced options.
After selecting your Windows 8 version, selecting System Restore and selecting the restore point you want, selecting Next, and then selecting your restore point.
Follow the on-screen instructions to perform a System Restore, and then restart your computer when prompted to finish.

Method 4: Unplug your removable media from the pcÂ
Check to see if any removable media, such as removable discs (Blu-ray discs, DVDs, and CDs), memory cards (CompactFlash card, Secure Digital card, Memory Stick), and USB flash drives, are within reach of the computer’s USB port.
Remove all of the removable media from the system.
